Program Description:

Discover your Virtually World at Universidad de Sevilla + In-Person Study Tour

Seville is the political, cultural, and intellectual capital of Spain's most populous region, Andalucia. Situated on the River Guadalquivir, Seville is home to the world's third largest cathedral, as well as palm-shaded avenues, numerous parks, gardens, and plazas.

The SUNY New Paltz Seville program has been in existence since 1971, making it one of the Center for International Program's longest-running and most well-established programs.

The Universidad de Sevilla is one of the oldest universities in Spain.   Founded in 1551, it now has an enrollment of over 75,000 students.

Students who study abroad at the Universidad de Sevilla through SUNY New Paltz have benefited for over two decades from the support and programming expertise of our full-time Resident Director, Dr. Michael Marfe. Michael Marfe is a graduate student of the Universidad de Sevilla and a native Spanish and English speaker. Michael continues to liaise with faculty and staff at the Universidad de Sevilla as well as local organizations and community members to provide SUNY students with quality programming both inside and outside of the classroom.

Your Virtual Classes

Students will take "Cursos para Extranjeros" which are offered by the "Facultades de Filologia, Historia y Geografia" and are taught in Spanish by regular University faculty.  These courses focus on Spanish language and on areas studies of Spain and Latin America.

-- All courses are taught in Spanish.
- 12-15 undergraduate credits per semester. Students who fully participate in the orientation program, course, and workshop will be granted three credits.
- Students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and 3-4 semesters of college level Spanish or equivalent are eligible to apply.
- An additional tool to help you in the course review and selection process is our Course Equivalency Database.  Click the link to view and use the database in order to find courses taken at this university by previous participants in this program and see the SUNY New Paltz course equivalent.

In Person Study Tour:

This program typically begins with a 3-6 day orientation that begins in Grenada and Marbella and concludes in Seville. The orientation program focuses on the Art History of Spain and will visit many points of cultural and historical interest such as the Alhambra, the mesquita de Cordoba, the Plaza de Corredera, and cathedrals, monuments, barrios, and plazas of interest. Students are also taught by local faculty experts about the cultural and historic gems of Sevilla, such as the Reales Alcazares de Sevilla, Centro Valasquez, Torre del Oro, Roman ruins of Italica, the Archives of the Indies, the famous Seville Cathedral and other heritage sites.

This semester, the in-person component will take place at the end of the virtual program! If in-person travel is deemed possible for the summer term, students who participate in the semester program, will have the opportunity to travel to Spain to participate in a 10-14 day, 3 credit, study tour with the program director and faculty whom you will get to know over the course of the semester program.
