New Paltz is a vibrant, historic village (pop. 14,003) in New York State’s Hudson Valley region, midway between Albany and New York City.  Our campus offers beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountains and easy access to outdoor recreation such as hiking, kayaking, climbing and biking as well as a wide variety of restaurants, specialty shops, historic sites, and local entertainment venues.

All programs include an intensive course in Business English - English classes that strengthen the student's vocabulary in the corporate environment.

Who will be Teaching the Classes?

Professors with masters and PhD degrees from the State University of New York at New Paltz will teach the courses. 
Business English lessons and activities are presented in English without translation.  There aren't any proficiency tests, but it is advisable that you are at least at the intermediate level.

Ph.D. in Finance from University of North Texas
M.S. in Economics from The University of Texas at Dallas

Career History:
Yi Zheng is an Assistant Professor of Finance at State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz). Before joining SUNY New Paltz, he earned his Ph.D. in Finance from University of North Texas and M.S. in Economics from The University of Texas at Dallas. His research interests include Financial Intermediation, Banking, Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation, and Payout Policy. His teaching interests mainly include Financial Markets and Institutions, Corporate Finance, Investments, Derivatives, Financial Modeling, International Finance, and Financial Planning.

Career History:
Akram Ibrahim is the founder and managing director at Hudson Valley CPA's PLLC providing professional accounting, audit, tax and consulting services.  His prior experience includes financial analysis and internal audit with Ingersoll Rand; internal audit at Schroder & Co.; and investment banking at Salomon Smith Barney with emphasis on European mergers and acquisitions.

Award:  2018 Outstanding Teacher Award from New York State TESOL Association 

 
Bio: Aiko Pletch has been teaching English as a second language for over 15 years. She has a BA in History from McGill University and a MA in Applied Linguistics from Concordia University and has been part of SUNY New Paltz since 2014. She teaches all language levels and all language skills and has also taught both graduate and undergraduate academic classes in the TESOL Graduate program and in the English department. Recently, Aiko has taught in the Dual Diploma Program between SUNY New Paltz and Chongqing University of Education preparing early childhood educators.

James Phillips

Birthplace: USA 
Interests: Global history and cultures; US history 
Award:  Outstanding Teacher of the Year, New York State TESOL, 2016

Bio:  James Phillips has been a full-time lecturer in the Haggerty English Language Program at SUNY New Paltz since 2011.  He has developed English for Specific Purposes courses including Business English and Reading/Writing classes for engineering students and also for music therapy students.  In the summer he has coordinated and taught Business English in a certificate program for the Institute of International Business. He has also taught in China, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  SUNY New Paltz is where he received his master’s degree in Second Language Acquisition.

Housing:*

All students will be staying in a dorm room on the SUNY New Paltz campus.  Students will have a roommate whom they will share a room with for the duration of the program.  Students will have access to meal plan and all services and facilities offered by the college including: the library, computer labs, multi-sport complex/gym, cafeteria and wireless internet throughout the campus.  Participants should bring sheets, pillow cases, and towels to use during stay (bed will come with pillow and blanket only).  The mattress size is Twin XL, not a common size outside of the USA, and measures 99cm x 203 cm. 
Students meal plan
 includes:
                                                   Breakfast each Monday though Thursday
                                                   Lunch each Monday through Thursday


Entertainment:

Students will have the weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) free to relax, enjoy the many things New Paltz has to offer and to visit tourist attractions in the region.



*No consumption of alcohol in public areas around the campus and in Residence-hall, Violation of rules leads to severe Punishments according to State Law.
