General Information

If you are reading this, then likely you have been offered and have accepted a TA/GA position at SUNY New Paltz. Congratulations!

If you are eligible AND you elect to purchase the Student Employee Health Plan (SEHP) through the New York State Health Insurance Plan (NYSHIP), you can request a waiver of your REQUIRED International Student Health Insurance.  You will need to upload a scan or picture of the email you received from Human Resources asproof of SEHP enrollment, AND you will need to enroll and pay for a Global Emergency Services assistant program insurance policy offered through SUNY (this policy rider covers the required policy details that the SEHP does not cover).  The policy information can be found here: Evacuation and Repatriation Policy Details.

The costs associated with this policy are currently $6.71 a month.

You will be required to be enrolled for the entire time you are enrolled in the Student Employee Health Insurance policy.

Process for requesting a waiver of the SUNY New Paltz International Student insurance:

  1. Upload a copy of your GA/TA appointment letter (signed offer letter)
  2. Upload a copy of your "benefit election notification" here (this is the email you will receive from Human Resources confirming enrollment in the SEHP Plan, including the effective date.
  3. Submit this record for review.
  4. ISS will review your request, and send you a link to pay the associated premium (it must match your GA/TA appt. dates).
  5. Follow the link in the email to Marketplace and pay your premium (you will need a credit card).
  6. Once we are notified the premium has been paid, a representative from International Student Services will review this request, and if approved, notify Student Accounts to remove the International Health Insurance Charges from your billing statement for the period indicated.
